Instructor: Claire Sehinson, MSc
Join Claire Sehinson, MSc, neurodivergent nutritional therapist and educator, to explore the history of Autism and how it came to enter the DSM and the medical model. She will discuss how a deficit-based lens and stereotyping based on “external behaviors” has led to greater harm, missed diagnoses of many people (especially females), and a lack of safety and trust in clinicians, ultimately resulting in worse health outcomes for autistic people.
Overview
Claire Sehinson will explore autistic-led research for a deeper understanding of the autistic neurotype – what is going on “on the inside” and how this environmental mismatch leads to greater chronic complex and interconnected health problems. She will discuss the ways our communication and perceptual differences may lead to misunderstandings in healthcare settings and the importance of bridging this gap. She will review the shortcomings of “evidence-based practice” and the need for neurodivergent-affirming clinical tools that honor the autistic neurotype and reduce harm.
This free webinar is for anyone wanting a holistic understanding of Autism, particularly where this might intersect with chronic illness and an introduction for providers who are looking to be more inclusive in their clinical practice.
