James Greenblatt, MD

A pioneer in the field of integrative medicine, James M. Greenblatt, MD, has treated patients since 1988. After receiving his medical degree and completing his psychiatry residency at George Washington University, Dr. Greenblatt completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Dr. Greenblatt currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, MA and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine and Dartmouth College Geisel School of Medicine.

Peter Bongiorno, ND, LAc

Dr. Peter Bongiorno is a naturopathic doctor and acupuncturist and serves as co-medical director of InnerSource Natural Health and Acupuncture, a thriving practice with two clinics in New York (New York City and Long Island).  He specializes in using integrative care to heal mood disorder. Dr. Bongiorno researched as a pre-doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health, at the National Institute of Mental Health’s department of Clinical Neuroendocrinology, where he first studied the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis response to stress. He also researched at Yale University in the department of pharmacology before training at Bastyr University in naturopathic medicine and acupuncture.

Rachel D. Egan PMHNP

Rachel received her BSN and MSN through Massachusetts General’s Institute of Health. Upon completion of this program, she was granted the Harriet Towle Excellence in Clinical Nursing Practice award. Rachel worked as an RN and completed her Master’s clinical hours at Walden Behavioral Care, a program specializing in the treatment of eating disorders. She now works there as the Associate Medical Director of Ambulatory Programming. In May 2021, Rachel completed Psychiatry Redefined’s Fellowship in Functional & Integrative Psychiatry. Rachel employs integrative and functional medicine techniques with outpatients in her private practice on Cape Cod, MA.

Stasha Gominak, MD

Dr. Gominak attended college in California and  medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, receiving her MD degree in 1983. She completed a Neurology residency in 1989 at the Harvard affiliated, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. From 1991-2004 she practiced as general neurologist in the San Francisco Bay area.

In 2004 Dr. Gominak moved with her husband to Tyler, Texas and began to concentrate on treating neurological illness by improving sleep. She published a pivotal article in 2012 proposing that the global struggle with worsening sleep was linked to reduced sun exposure. In 2016 she followed with a second article linking the change in the intestinal microbiome to the epidemic of poor sleep, and described a simple process for normalizing sleep and the intestinal bacterial population, called RightSleep®. In 2016 she retired from office practice to have more time to teach. She currently divides her time between teaching individuals, through virtual coaching sessions and teaching clinicians from a wide variety of medical and dental fields. Judith E. Pentz, MD

Judith E. Pentz, MD is an integrative psychiatrist who has dedicated her career to combining the very best of western and integrative medicine in order to cultivate balanced mental health for all those who seek it.  

Dr. Pentz attended the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo (now the University of Toledo), completing her psychiatric training in 1990 and achieving board certification in 1993 (adult psychiatry) and 1994 (child and adolescent psychiatry), respectively.

In addition to her training in the medical field of psychiatry, Dr. Pentz has studied numerous complementary healing methods ranging from craniosacral therapy and EMDR to homeopathy and qi gong.  She has trained with various healers exploring Chinese, Native American, Peruvian, and Ayurvedic herbal, bodywork, and energetic modalities.

Dr. Pentz is an active writer as well as a healer.  In addition to her own articles and blogs she is published in the breakthrough Integrative Therapies for Depression: Redefining Models for Assessment, Treatment, and Prevention (Greenblatt JM, Brogan K (eds), 2016) textbook, which features her chapter on botanicals for the treatment of depression.  Her new book, Cleanse Your Body, Reveal Your Soul (Mango Publishing) will be released in 2020, and documents her personal odyssey towards physical and spiritual healing through an Ayurvedic cleanse called panchakarma.

Arwen Podesta, MD, ABPN, FASAM, ABIHM

Practicing in New Orleans, Arwen Podesta, MD is a board-certified adult psychiatrist with sub-specializations in addiction medicine, forensic psychiatry, and integrative medicine. She opened Podesta Psychiatry LLC in 2012, with a team of excellent providers- a multidisciplinary collaborative model with nutrition, psychotherapy, acupuncture and psychiatry.

Dr. Podesta’s primary focus is access to integrative mental health and addiction treatment, with a whole health focus, for all. Her current activities include teaching (Tulane and LSU), consulting in Re-entry court, board member of the Alliance for Benzodiazepine Best Practices (www.benzoreform.org), and recently re-releasing her book, HOOKED, for an updated edition. She is the immediate past president of the Louisiana chapter of the American society for addiction medicine (ASAM) and currently serves in national committees. She consults to the Louisiana governor’s HOPE committee, and often advises for the city and state regarding addiction, best practices and more. She is a distinguished fellow of both the American Psychiatric Association and also the American Society of Addiction Medicine. David Shannahoff-Khalsa

David Shannahoff-Khalsa is the Director of The Research Group for Mind-Body Dynamics at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) BioCircuits Institute, and a member of the UCSD Center for Integrative Medicine. Prior to coming to UCSD in 1994, he spent 23 years at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California, first working on the building blocks of the genetic code, and then pioneering novel studies in the neurosciences.

He has discovered a novel step in the evolution of the nervous system that gives new insights to mind-body (psychophysiological) states and how these states can be controlled. He has published widely in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conducted three clinical trials using Kundalini Yoga meditation techniques for treating obsessive-compulsive disorders and OC spectrum disorders. He has pioneered the use of whole-head magnetoencephalography brain imaging to study yogic meditation techniques. He has presented and taught Kundalini Yoga Meditation protocols for treating psychiatric disorders at the American Psychiatric Association Annual Meetings 13 times (including 11 full day CME courses).

He has written four books that include 100+ different meditation techniques and multipart disorder-specific protocols for treating all of the major psychiatric disorders. His 3 books published by W. William Shaw, PhD

William Shaw, PhD, is board certified in the fields of clinical chemistry and toxicology by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Before he founded The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc., Dr. Shaw worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Children’s Mercy Hospital, University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine, and Smith Kline Laboratories.
