Discover comprehensive functional psychiatric interventions to help your patients finally heal. Plus, gain clinical protocols you can use immediately in your practice.

Dr. Greenblatt’s Eating Disorders Training explores the necessary nutritional psychiatry interventions to help your patients achieve root cause recovery and true healing. By integrating best practices from traditional medicine, therapy, and functional medicine, Dr. Greenblatt equips you with the knowledge to understand and treat the underlying causes of anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder and food addiction.

This training integrates nutritional psychiatry, psychological interventions, medical strategies, and functional medicine into a cohesive framework, delivering a holistic approach to care. By correcting biochemistry and healing both the brain and body, we can then support the mind and spirit through psychotherapy and integrative approaches. This model, combined with already-existing treatment strategies, comprises an approach that is personalized, balanced, and, most importantly, successful.

With over three decades of experience and a substantial patient base, Dr. Greenblatt has refined a science-based methodology for addressing eating disorders, grounded in current medical research and enhanced by natural therapeutic strategies.

“This training has been an incredible and eye opening opportunity for me to understand the biology behind eating disorders. Unfortunately this information is not standard in typical training programs for eating disorder ‘specialists’ — but absolutely NEEDS TO BE! Hopefully we can be the ones to change mental health CARE thanks to Dr. Greenblatt!”

The Psychiatry Redefined Eating Disorders Training Bundle

Both binge eating disorder and anorexia stem from fundamental and unique imbalances in biochemistry and nutrition. Treating eating disorders requires a thorough approach to help patients regain a healthy relationship with food–an approach that addresses all genetic, psychosocial, or environmental circumstances. This training provides a comprehensive system of care for anorexia by addressing malnutrition, and draws upon the revolutionary New Hope Model for binge eating disorder. These targeted interventions address biologic vulnerabilities and key vitamin/mineral deficiencies, support the gut-brain axis, and restore neurotransmitter functioning. Step-by-step, he’ll instruct you on how to create personalized patient treatment plans that target the biochemical pathways regulating appetite, and resolve the unique imbalances that perpetuate hunger and starvation.

Courses in the Eating Disorders Training

Functional & Integrative Medicine for Anorexia Nervosa (4 CME credits)

This 3-module course, presented by Dr. James Greenblatt, introduces a functional medicine model for anorexia nervosa (AN) treatment and recovery, in which the concept of anorexia nervosa is the result of a complex and biologically-mediated interplay between environmental, psychosocial, and metabolic factors is explored. Research supporting associations between metabolic abnormalities, dyslipidemia, micronutrient imbalances, and systemic inflammation will be objectively reviewed, illuminating critical treatment targets for today’s functional psychiatry practice and providing an empirically validated blueprint for personalized interventions. Upon completion, trainees will be able to substantiate the clinical utility of a functional medicine approach for anorexia nervosa, and safely incorporate evidence-based treatment strategies into existing therapeutic models to maximize patient outcomes.

Functional Medicine for Binge Eating Disorder Course

This two-module online course serves as the foundation for the training and introduces Dr. Greenblatt’s breakthrough New Hope Model for BED patients. The New Hope Model is the cornerstone for the training, and teaches you how to identify imbalances in the brain, assess and treat via lab testing, and correct deficiencies and excesses through nutritional supplementation and augmentation. You’ll learn how the gut-brain connection and microbiome influence eating behaviors, along with how and what medications fit into treatment for each patient.

The Neuroscience of Happiness: Providing Hope for Recovery from Disordered Eating

Over the last decade, new and improved brain imaging techniques have opened up novel opportunities to provide insight into what hope is and how therapy, nutrition, and drugs can catalyze the recovery process. Using a neuroscientific model, this unique course combines research and clinical knowledge with a patient’s perspective to demonstrate how hope is real, tangible, and even required in eating disorder recovery. An informative as well as entertaining presentation, this course provides a practical, neuroscientific explanation of hope, as well as concrete tools for helping clients to achieve lasting recovery.

The Oxytocin Paradox: Miracle Cure or Extraordinary Hype?

There has been increasing interest in the role of oxytocin in the development, maintenance and pathophysiology eating disorders. Oxytocin alters neural pathways that exert prosocial effects and modulates trust, fear, depression, anxiety, trauma, and neuroplasticity. Research supports the hormone reduces unconscious tendencies to focus on food, body shape and negative emotions. This course explores the potential of exogenous and endogenous oxytocin to improve the outcomes of eating disorder treatment.
