Instructor: Jaquel Patterson, ND, MBA
In recent years, research has increasingly highlighted the significant role of neuroinflammation in the development and exacerbation of various psychiatric disorders. From mood disorders like depression and anxiety to more severe conditions such as schizophrenia, inflammation within the brain can have a profound impact on mental health. This webinar will provide a deep dive into how neuroinflammation interacts with psychiatric symptoms, its causes, and potential therapeutic approaches to manage this critical factor.
Learning Objectives
- Explain how neuroinflammation, triggered by factors such as infections, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), chronic diseases, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune conditions, and environmental exposures, can contribute to the development and exacerbation of psychiatric disorders, including anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia.
- List inflammatory biomarkers associated with psychiatric conditions by exploring how these biomarkers can influence treatment resistance and affect mental health outcomes.
- State integrative strategies to manage neuroinflammation, including lifestyle modifications, dietary interventions, and targeted anti-inflammatory treatments.

Overview
Chronic inflammation plays a pivotal role in the development and severity of mental health conditions. Higher levels of inflammatory markers, such as cytokines and C-reactive protein (CRP), correlate with an increased risk of psychiatric symptoms and treatment resistance. It highlights how persistent inflammation disrupts neurotransmitter signaling and neural circuitry, contributing to disorders such as anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia.
In this webinar, Dr. Patterson will examine the mechanisms by which inflammation—triggered by factors such as infections, chronic stress, autoimmune dysfunction, chronic disease, poor diet, and environmental toxins—affects mental health. She’ll cover key topics, including the role of inflammatory cytokines, immune dysregulation, and gut-brain axis interactions. Dr. Patterson will conclude with an evidence-based discussion on both conventional and integrative approaches to managing inflammation, including lifestyle interventions, nutritional therapies, and targeted anti-inflammatory treatments.
Let’s redefine mental wellness together.
