Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) affects 1 in 40 adults and 1 in 100 children. It is a psychiatric disorder characterized by intrusive, unwanted, and anxiety-inducing thoughts – otherwise known as obsessions. To alleviate anxiety and distress from obsessions, sufferers often engage in specific and repetitive behaviors, known as compulsions. OCD sufferers are aware that their thoughts and behaviors are abnormal, even illogical… but often cannot control them. Consequently, OCD obsessions and compulsions can interfere so significantly in a sufferer’s life as to be disabling.

In this webinar, Dr. Greenblatt will discuss OCD and present an integrative and functional medicine model for treatment. He will explore research implicating genetic, neurochemical, psychological, and environmental contributors to OCD, with a special focus on serotonin pathways. He will then present evidence-based nutritional interventions influencing serotonin that have shown to be effective, including Vitamin D, folate, inositol, and 5-hydroxytryptophan. He will make recommendations for testing and supplementation, equipping attendees with therapeutic tools they can employ immediately.
